Red Stars 10, Blue Stars 4
One of the biggest games on the
NYRHL schedule doesn't even
count... at least in the standings.
The All-Star Game's format is to
have teammates play against each
other, just for one night, and it
makes for a lot of fun.  There is
always a great display of talent and
skill, but what might surprise you is
how hard each of them play.  You
can tell each team wants to win the
game, and the combination of that
drive to win and the talent level they
possess only leads to a great game.

There would not be another goal for
the next 8 minutes.  Both teams
playing strong defensively until Ed
Hatch placed a perfect top corner
shot over Dave Wesley of the Reds
to tie the game 1-1.  The response
from the Red Stars was quick - 34
seconds later Ryan McGarvey would
slam home his first of 3 goals to put
the Reds back up 2-1.  They would
ultimately hold the lead the rest of
the way.  John Romeo would put the
Reds up 3-1 before Dana Presto cut
the momentum, and the lead,
scoring for the Blues.  It was
Presto's 7th career All-Star goal.
Mark Fouvy would score for the
Blues on a rebound with 47 seconds
left in the first, and the teams
headed to the break with the Reds
up 4-3.  The second period was a
different story, with the Reds
continuing to score while goalie
Amit Sinha committed grand
larceny, stoning shot after shot from
the Blue Stars, including
breakaways and odd man rushes.
The Blues were unable to solve
Sinha until Fouvy scored his second
of the game, a laser from just in front
of the red line.  Sinha had no chance
but the damage was done.  The
Reds went on to win 10-4.

John Romeo led the Red Stars with 2
goals and 2 assists, taking MVP
honors.  Ryan McGarvey had a hat
trick. Niall Harding scored 2 goals,
including the game winner. Nick
Orlando had a goal and assist. Danny
Christ and Frank Guiffre also scored.
Joe Zambetti had 3 assists.  Mike
Radziszewski added 2 assists and
Sam Cochrane had an assist in the
win.  Sinha earned the win in goal,
making 16 saves.  His counterpart,
Dave Wesley, gave up only 3 goals in
the first, making 15 saves.  The Reds
were 0-1 on the power play, with Dana
Presto taking the only minor, a tripping
penalty, in the second.

The Blue Stars played extremely well,
but were unable to score in the 2nd
period.  Fouvy's 2 goals led the way
for the Blue Stars.  Dana Presto had a
goal and assist.  Ed Hatch also
scored.  Kevin Gibbons chipped in
with 3 assists.  Dustin Cotcamp,
Chuck Gabriele, and Scott Smith each
had assists as well.  It was a busy day
for the goalies.  Shawn Whalen made
15 saves on 19 shots in the first
period,  while Joe Karavitch made 15
saves on 21 shots in the second
period.

Thanks and congratulations to all of
this year's All-Stars who never fail to
deliver a great game.  It's back to
business on Sunday however, with the
season heading into the final stretch.
